Bella Giles-Smith Biography

How it all started

Bella started riding when she was 11 years old.

Bought her own horse “Just Pip” (Pip) in 1987 and had great success in Show Jumping, Cross Country events and Ridden Showing, until he was sold in 1991.

Bella rode for Joanna Gillespie, owner of Vicarage Farm Stables, Sunbury. Winning numerous showing events while competing in Riding Horse and Show Hunter classes, plus winning Ridden Show Champion on several occasions.

Bella took a break from riding and spent a few years enjoying her other passion, "Dancing", successfully competing in Ballroom, Latin and Salsa competitions. Her trainers included Anton Du Beck and Erin Boag who are dance professionals on the very popular "Strictly Come Dancing".

Bella works full time in the Marketing Department at Honda Head Office and has been with the company since 2002. Bella really enjoys working at Honda due to the challenging and very varied role, plus working with a great team of people.

For the love of Dressage

Bella started riding a 6yr old 16.2hh Hanoverian black gelding called Rodolfo (Rudy) in October 2013 and a 21yr old 14.1hh chestnut mare called Fully Connected (Folly) September 2012, both owned by Stuart Boyle. Bella competes on Rudy and Folly in "Dressage” which had a large coverage during the Olympics, also described as the dancing horses. Bella also has the opportunity to compete on other horses owned by Stuart.

In September 2015 a new all weather school was completed at the yard where Rudy is stabled. Bella riding Rudy were the first to ride on it, "it was like riding on air, so wonderful to have a lovely surface to train on, the new school is going to help Rudy and me improve considerably". "It was a lot of hard work and a few callouses on my hands, not to mention aches and pains in places I didn't know existed, as we did the majority of the work by hand to build the school." "It has so been worth all the hard work, we are very lucky to have a wonderful school to ride in."

In February 2017 Bella took full ownership of her beloved Rudy, a dream come true and she still can't quite believe it.
